The Financials: Tipping

Enable, collect, and report on tips through Details Invoicing.

Details now gives you the ability to accept tips from your clients when they make a payment through Details Invoicing. You can also manually log a tip for any payment made outside the system.

We’ll walk through how to:

  • Enable tipping in your settings

  • How clients leave a tip

  • View and log tips

  • Use the Tip Reporting page

Client Portal Settings: Invoicing

On the Client Portal Settings page, you will find an 'Invoicing' option on the left-hand side. In this section, you can turn on the following options:

  • Tipping - This will turn on the 'Tip' field in the invoice for your client to see
  • Tip For - This will be a field your client can fill out to note who the tip is for, such as a specific designer they have been working with
  • Custom Payment Amounts - This will allow your clients to pay a custom amount, different from the amount due for each payment
  • Recommended Tip Percentage - This is show up are preview text in the field where they will fill in their tip amount

When your client selects Make a Payment on the invoice, they’ll be presented with a few payment options:

  • Choose a scheduled payment

  • Enter a custom amount

  • Select multiple payments using the checkboxes on the left-hand side

Once a selection is made, a pop-up window will appear. In this window, the client will:

  1. Enter their email address

  2. Confirm the payment amount

  3. Click Add Tip? to open the tipping field and enter their desired amount

From there, you will see a 'Tip For' and 'Tip' field option for your client to fill out. In the tip field, you will see your 'Recommended Tip Percentage' if you have set one in your Client Portal Settings

Logging Payments & Tips

All tips submitted through Details Invoicing are automatically recorded on the event's Payments page. By default, these entries will show as “Details Invoicing.

To log a payment and tip together, click Record New Payment With Tip. Fill in the relevant details in the pop-up form, and the entry will appear in the appropriate section.

To log a tip or payment by itself, click the 'Record New Payment' or 'Record New Tip' options to add a row to the appropriate section.

Tip Reporting

A dedicated Tip Reporting page overviews all collected tips under 'Reporting' > 'Tips' from the Main Menu.

On this page, you can:

  • View all tips received across events

  • Search by Tip For, Client Name, Event Name, and more

  • Use the Settings menu to choose what columns of information are shown or hidden
  • Export the list for external reporting or payroll purposes

⚠️ Note: Standard processing fees apply to tips like they do for regular payments. Be sure to account for this when reviewing your totals.
